What does "Experience Connected Mobility" mean to you?
For ExxonMobil “Experience Connected Mobility” means working towards advancing sustainable human progress.

When brands and businesses have meaningful interactions and share their expertise, we can unlock technological advancements which enhance experiences and improve efficiency for everyone.

With the dawn of a new mobility era for electric vehicles, the requirements and working methods in research and development are changing. Together with well-known OEMs, especially our long-term cooperation partner Porsche, ExxonMobil is at the forefront of research and development.

Through such collaboration, we can provide Mobil EV fluids which will support connected vehicles of the future.

What do you hope to achieve at IAA MOBILITY 2023?
At IAA MOBILITY 2019, ExxonMobil announced the global launch of the new Mobil EV product line, and a lot has happened since then in the field of EV operating fluids. Today, Mobil EV products are important, high-performance fluids that provide wear protection, heat dissipation, lubrication and high efficiency for electric motors, batteries, transmissions and bearings.

At IAA MOBILITY 2023, we are going to share our latest EV fluids developments which are helping electric vehicles to go further, longer, safer.  We’ll be highlighting the need for innovative approaches to fluids engineering that meet the electric vehicle needs of tomorrow and will present our cutting-edge 3-in-1 coolant and lubricant used by the exciting Porsche GT4 ePerformance race car prototype.

Which essential topic of the future receives too little attention from the public?
It is probably not broadly known what an essential role the EV thermal management system plays in determining an EV’s range, reliability and robustness. Keeping the batteries cooled is one of the most important engineering requirements for EVs and the most effective heat transfer method is to directly cool the battery from inside.

We believe that direct or “immersion” cooling is the future of EV battery thermal management and can demonstrate that the use of Mobil EV fluids to directly cool battery cells results in sufficiently cool temperatures, even at high charging rates. Together with our partners, we are continuing with research and development. We are really excited about the future of EVs and the role Mobil is going to play in keeping them running further, longer and safer.

In which area of mobility do you see the greatest potential and where do you see the greatest need to catch up?
In ExxonMobil’s 2023 Advancing Climate Solutions report, we project battery electric vehicles to account for 20% of all new car sales by 2035 and 35% by 2050. The pace of adoption will increase as CO2 emissions regulations in many European countries will prevent the sale of combustion engine vehicles. This means there’s potential for more of the market to experience the latest EV technology.

The area of mobility that needs to catch up to consumer concerns is battery technology. Recent years have seen increased battery capacity; however, capabilities need to advance. The use of innovative eFluids, such as the Mobil EV range, will enable further driving distances between charges, longer vehicle life, and safer operation.

IAA MOBILITY is the leading global mobility platform. It connects innovators from all spectrums of mobility. Who do you want to network with in September and why?
Collaborations and partnerships are instrumental in finding tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Reaching out to outside thinkers can bring new lower-emission products to drivers around the world. [Source: ExxonMobil]

We are excited to meet emerging and existing OEMs, suppliers and tech companies, to discuss solutions for today and tomorrow that will give drivers everywhere a ride they love, as well as helping businesses improve performance and efficiency across their fleets.

The world is fundamentally changing. Innovation and also the endeavors in the mobility sector are bigger than ever before. What is your vision of the world in 20 years?
By 2040, there could be as many as 420 million electric vehicles on the road and powering these lower-emission vehicles will be Mobil EV products — including lubricants, specialty greases and eMotor fluids — that help drivers to go longer between charges. [Source: ExxonMobil]

Our dedication to discovering the best formulas will continue as battery electric and fuel cell vehicles become more popular. We’ll continue to develop our EV technologies as demand grows. Testing Mobil EV to the extreme on the racetrack means we can provide the ultimate performance for drivers on the road.

New digital solutions like AI and autonomous systems are transforming our services, such as lubricant analysis. We are also working with technology companies to develop our digital platform, with a focus on collaboration that will lead to a superior mobility experience. [Source: ExxonMobil]

There is a lot for our customers to look forward to at IAA MOBILITY 2023 and beyond.
