New electric compact SUV celebrates its world premiere

Volkswagen is expanding its electric vehicle portfolio with the new ID. Cross.

The all-electric compact SUV combines advanced MEB+ technology, a spacious interior, and numerous comfort and driver-assistance features typically found in higher vehicle classes. At the same time as its world premiere, Volkswagen is launching pre-orders for the new model.

ID. Cross expands Volkswagen’s electric SUV lineup

With the ID. Cross, Volkswagen is introducing a new all-electric SUV in the compact segment. The model is based on the MEB+ platform and follows the ID. CROSS Concept presented at IAA MOBILITY. Volkswagen is thus bringing the former concept car into series production. Despite a vehicle length of 4.15 meters, the ID. Cross is expected to offer more space than the comparable gas-powered T-Cross.

The trunk has a capacity of 475 liters. It also features a variable load floor with additional storage space for two beverage crates, as well as a 25-liter frunk under the front hood, providing room for charging cables or smaller items.

High-quality interior and modern design

Visually, the ID. Cross follows Volkswagen’s “Pure Positive” design language. Clean lines, distinctive lighting signatures, as well as optionally available IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights and illuminated Volkswagen logos define its appearance.

Inside, Volkswagen focuses on fabric-covered surfaces and high-quality materials. Standard equipment includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a central 12.9-inch infotainment display.  Optionally, the driver display can be styled to resemble the classic Golf I. Read here how Volkswagen is advancing the development toward the software-defined vehicle.

Three powertrain options with a range of up to 427 kilometers

At launch, the ID. Cross will be available in three power levels:

• 85 kW (116 hp)
• 99 kW (135 hp)
• 155 kW (211 hp)

Two battery sizes with 37 kWh and 52 kWh of net capacity enable ranges of up to 427 kilometers.

As standard, the vehicle supports charging at up to 11 kW AC. At DC fast-charging stations, the smaller battery reaches a charging capacity of up to 90 kW, while the larger battery can handle up to 105 kW. Charging from 10 to 80 percent is expected to take around 23 to 24 minutes, depending on the battery.

Driver-assistance systems from higher vehicle classes

The ID. Cross incorporates numerous technologies from larger Volkswagen models. These include, among others:

• Connected Travel Assist with traffic light recognition and automatic stopping at red lights
• One-pedal driving
• Park Assist Pro with remote-controlled parking via smartphone and a 360-degree camera

An adaptive DCC suspension is also available for the 155 kW version. In addition, Volkswagen offers the following optional features:

• Harman Kardon sound system
• 12-way power-adjustable front seats with massage function
• Large panoramic glass roof and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) with up to 3.6 kW output

With the larger battery, the ID. Cross can tow trailers with a gross weight of up to 1,200 kilograms.
