The first global IAA MOBILITY Trend Index surveys expectations around mobility in key international markets—including China, the U.S., the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. The findings are clear: personal mobility remains essential across all countries surveyed, and the automobile will continue to play a central role in the future.

At the same time, there is broad consensus about the direction of powertrain technology. When asked which type of propulsion is most likely to prevail in the automotive sector, respondents overwhelmingly favored electric drive systems—followed in most countries by hydrogen fuel technology.

The survey also reveals that the automotive industry enjoys a high level of trust worldwide as a driver of innovation and economic prosperity. Particularly notable is the strong willingness to embrace autonomous driving and share anonymized data—especially among respondents in China.

The survey was commissioned by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and conducted by the research firm Civey in collaboration with Cint. From June 11 to June 12, 2025, a total of 1,000 adults (18+) were surveyed online in each of the following countries: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United States, and the United Kingdom. In China, 1,000 adults were surveyed online from June 11 to June 17, 2025. Results are representative within a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points, taking into account quota sampling and statistical weighting.
