Mercedes-Benz GLA (2026): New Compact SUV Launches with up to 408 Miles of Range

Mercedes-Benz presents the new generation of the GLA, introducing a fully electric powertrain family for the compact SUV for the first time. Featuring up to 408 miles (657 km) of WLTP range, 800-volt technology, and a completely redesigned interior, the new GLA is primarily aimed at customers looking to combine electromobility, digital connectivity, and everyday practicality. Sales orders open on July 30, 2026.

Three Electric GLA Models at Launch

At launch, Mercedes-Benz is offering the new GLA in three battery-electric variants.

The entry-level GLA 200 Electric features a 58-kWh battery and delivers 165 kW (221 hp). Positioned above it are the GLA 250+ Electric with 200 kW (268 hp) and the GLA 350 4MATIC Electric with 260 kW (349 hp) and an 85-kWh battery. The maximum WLTP range reaches up to 408 miles (657 kilometers). Another model with a 71-kWh battery is scheduled to follow in early 2027.

Thanks to the 800-volt architecture, the GLA can gain up to 167 miles (270 kilometers) of range in just ten minutes at suitable fast-charging stations. The maximum DC fast-charging capacity is up to 320 kW. A comparable combination of long range and 800-volt technology is also used by the new all-electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Hybrid Models to Expand the Lineup in 2027

In addition to the electric variants, Mercedes-Benz will expand the model family in early 2027 to include electrified hybrid versions featuring 48-volt technology.

The newly developed 1.5-liter turbocharged gas engine works alongside a 22-kW electric motor integrated into an electrified eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. According to the manufacturer, the hybrid models enable all-electric driving in city traffic, energy recuperation across all eight gears, and coasting at higher speeds.

The parallel development of different electrified powertrains can also be seen at other manufacturers. The new BMW X5 with five drivetrain variants, for example, is set to be offered with battery-electric, hybrid, and hydrogen-based powertrains.

New MBUX Cockpit with AI Support

Inside, the GLA gets a completely redesigned cockpit. The optional MBUX Superscreen stretches across nearly the entire dashboard.

The infotainment system also includes the updated MBUX Virtual Assistant powered by generative artificial intelligence, as well as Google Maps-based navigation with intelligent charging and parking spot search.

Space has grown, too: trunk capacity increases to up to 14.5 cubic feet (410 liters), while the electric versions offer an additional 3.8-cubic-foot (107-liter) frunk. The 4MATIC models are rated to tow trailers weighing up to 4,400 lbs (2 metric tons).

Redesigned Look and New Driver Assistance Systems

Visually, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA features a sleeker silhouette, a longer wheelbase, and an illuminated radiator grille on the electric variants. Buyers can choose from four trim levels plus an additional Night Edition.

The MB.DRIVE assistance system has also been upgraded. New additions include an automatic lane-change assistant, extra parking functions, and a 360-degree surround-view display.

With the new GLA, Mercedes-Benz combines electric drives, advanced driver assistance systems, and digital connectivity in an everyday-ready compact SUV.
