From September 9 to 14, Munich will become the global hub for the future of mobility. At this week’s official press conference, Hildegard Müller, President of the VDA, emphasizes the role of IAA MOBILITY as an "anchor of stability in dynamic times." "Here in Munich, we are showcasing our capabilities with world premieres and impressive innovations. I look forward to our industry sending a confident signal of strength and a future-oriented mentality. We will once again demonstrate what we can achieve with this dynamism, our high investments, passion, and collective effort. The IAA is the global flagship of our industry — an industry that creates growth, prosperity, and jobs in Germany and around the world."
Mobility as a Central Growth Factor
Müller clarifies that the integration of different modes of transport, the networked approach that the IAA represents, is crucial: "Mobility is a central factor for growth, no matter where you are in the world. Mobility — and the options associated with it — not only means more freedom for every individual: where mobility is smartly organized, new perspectives emerge, societies become more innovative, and diverse people are brought together."
Stefan Rummel and Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, the CEOs of Messe München, state: "IAA MOBILITY fits perfectly into our mega trade fair year of 2025. It brings people from all over the world together at the exhibition grounds and in downtown Munich's Open Space. The coexistence of different modes of transport evolves into an inspiring integration of future-oriented mobility solutions. The Festival of Lights Munich is another enrichment that will excite visitors. At the same time, IAA MOBILITY creates enormous economic value," the two CEOs explain. "We expect a regional economic impact in the hundreds of millions — a gain for the city, the region, and its people."

The first global IAA MOBILITY Trend Index surveys expectations around mobility in key international markets—including China, the U.S., the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. The findings are clear: personal mobility remains essential across all countries surveyed, and the automobile will continue to play a central role in the future.
At the same time, there is a broad consensus about the direction of powertrain technology. When asked which type of propulsion is most likely to prevail in the automotive sector, respondents overwhelmingly favored electric drive systems—followed in most countries by hydrogen fuel technology.
The survey also reveals that the automotive industry enjoys a high level of trust worldwide as a driver of innovation and economic prosperity. Particularly notable is the strong willingness to embrace autonomous driving and share anonymized data—especially among respondents in China.
The survey was commissioned by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and conducted by the research firm Civey in collaboration with Cint. From June 11 to June 12, 2025, a total of 1,000 adults (18+) were surveyed online in each of the following countries: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United States, and the United Kingdom. In China, 1,000 adults were surveyed online from June 11 to June 17, 2025. Results are representative within a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points, taking into account quota sampling and statistical weighting.

This week, the full lineup for the IAA Summit, IAA Conference, and IAA Open Space went online. The IAA Experience program will be released later.
Held from September 9–12, 2025, the IAA Summit brings together top mobility companies at Messe München to showcase their latest innovations to a professional audience. The IAA Conference features discussions with industry leaders, visionaries, and policymakers exploring the societal and technological dimensions of future mobility.
The IAA Open Space in downtown Munich is free and open to the public, offering an interactive festival atmosphere with innovation showcases and hands-on experiences. The IAA Experience allows test drives of EVs, eBikes, autonomous vehicles, and other mobility solutions on public roads and demo tracks.

The Center of Automotive Management (CAM) has released its 2025 AutomotiveINNOVATIONS Awards. Volkswagen Group tops the global list for overall innovation strength, followed by Chinese automakers BYD, SAIC, and Geely. Volkswagen also leads among high-volume brands, with BYD and Li Auto in second and third.
In the premium category, Audi takes first place, ahead of Mercedes and Nio. The most innovative models this year are the Li Auto Maga, Kia EV3, and Audi Q6.

Hankook is expanding its EV-focused iON tire lineup with the new iON HT—a highway-terrain tire designed for heavy electric SUVs and light commercial vehicles. With XL load ratings, the tire is engineered to handle the added battery weight and cargo without compromising durability or comfort.
Technologies like Roll Lite Compound, Opti Cure, ProDurable Compound, and Opti Tread contribute to a low rolling resistance (for improved range) and a long lifespan of up to 128,000 km. 3D grooves and reinforced shoulders enhance wet-weather performance. After debuting at Electrify Expo in Los Angeles (June 21–22), the tire will be available in August in five sizes (18–22 inches) with T or H speed ratings.

Chinese automaker Geely is bringing its EX5 electric SUV to several European markets, including Balkan countries, Greece, and the UK—with more to follow. The EX5 comes in two battery sizes (49.5 kWh and 60.2 kWh), offering up to 425 km of WLTP range and 100 kW DC fast charging.
Its 215 hp front motor accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds.

Polestar has reached a major milestone: its Polestar Charge network now includes over 1 million public charging points across Europe. The network integrates major providers such as IONITY, Tesla Superchargers, Allego, Fastned, Total, and Recharge, along with numerous regional operators—making it one of the continent’s largest EV charging ecosystems.
