What to Expect on Opening Day at IAA MOBILITY

IAA MOBILITY kicks off its third edition today, bringing together the biggest and most influential players from the automotive, tech, cycling, and micromobility industries through September 14, 2025. The goal: not just to discuss sustainable, smart, and connected mobility solutions—but to make them a tangible experience for everyone.

IAA Summit
on September 09, 2025

At the IAA Summit, the popular Networking Tours (daily at 9:45–11:15 AM, 1:00–2:30 PM, and 3:00–4:30 PM) and Mobility Meetings (twice daily at 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM) officially kick off. These guided tours give attendees curated access to selected exhibitor booths, where industry experts provide insider insights and hands-on experiences.

The Mobility Meetings go a step further—offering a curated matchmaking process that connects participants directly with innovators, industry experts, and decision-makers. It’s a unique opportunity to share ideas, forge new partnerships, and uncover promising business opportunities.

In “Driving the Digital Future: BMW's Connected Vehicle Vision powered by AWS,” BMW and AWS discuss how cloud technology is shaping the future of connected vehicles.

1:00–1:20 PM | Hall B1, Booth B10:
Polestar and Google share exclusive insights into their long-standing collaboration—and how tech and mobility are growing ever closer.

Hall A2:
In the session “Project Spotlight – Building Germany’s National Fast-Charging Network,” Autobahn GmbH presents its ambitious plans to deploy a nationwide EV fast-charging network along the German highway system.

Evening Program
To close out the day, Valeo and AWS take the stage at 5:00–5:15 PM (Hall A2, Booth B10) with their joint session “SDV and ADAS Partnership to Transform Automotive,” showcasing how software-defined vehicles and advanced driver-assistance systems are evolving through AI-powered engineering.

Later in the evening, AutoVision and IAA MOBILITY invite all exhibitors to the AutoVision & Weibo Night 2025—a high-profile networking event that brings together global leaders from across the mobility ecosystem.

A highlight of the night: the AutoVision Awards Ceremony, where the prestigious OttoCar trophies will be presented live on stage to celebrate the most outstanding advertising and communication campaigns in the global mobility sector.

4:00–4:45 PM | Hall A2 – Main Stage: “From Machine to Experience: CEOs on the Future of the Car”
Featuring Markus Heyn (Member of the Board of Management and Chairman of Bosch Mobility), Ola Källenius (Chairman of the Board of Management, Mercedes-Benz Group AG), and Chrissy Taylor (President & CEO, Enterprise Mobility). From day one, visitors to downtown Munich are invited to get creative in the IAA Open Space:

At Odeonsplatz – Family Trail, Station 1 (11:00 AM – 9:00 PM), the Volkswagen Discovery Rally invites families on an interactive journey to explore the world of mobility through fun and play.

Just a few steps away, at Station 2, the smart Art Shop “Open Your Mind” (11:00 AM – 5:00 PM) gives visitors the chance to design their own smart x Keith Haring Art Cars, combining iconic pop art with innovative urban mobility.

At Marienplatz, the Citizen Lab opens its doors from 11:15 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a series of thought-provoking talks throughout the day:

  • 2:00 – 2:30 PM: “Three Myths About Sustainability”
  • 2:45 – 3:15 PM: “Sustainable Mobility and the Innovations Driving It Forward”
  • 5:15 – 6:00 PM: “Autonomous Vehicle Research”
  • 6:00 PM: A public transport panel discussion—“Deutschlandticket, Free Transit & Reality”—featuring, among others, Carmen Parrino, Head of Regional Transport at Deutsche Bahn AG.

On the Siegestor Stage at Geschwister-Scholl-Platz, Sebastian Vettel, four-time Formula 1 World Champion, will speak live from 4:00 to 4:45 PM, reflecting on sustainability and the future of mobility.

Later in the evening, the first live concerts light up the stage:

  • 5:15 – 6:00 PM: schmerzis
  • 8:00 – 9:00 PM: Thaler

Over at Königsplatz, Deutsche Bahn’s “Zukunft Nahverkehr” (Future of Public Transport) initiative launches its interactive experience space, opened by Evelyn Palla, Member of the Management Board for Regional Transport / CEO of DB Regio AG.

And for the first time ever, Munich’s Festival of Lights premieres as part of IAA MOBILITY. From September 9 to 13, between 8:00 and 11:00 PM each evening, stunning light art projections will illuminate landmark buildings including the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, die  Residenz, and the Alte Rathaus—offering visitors a unique fusion of technology, creativity, and city culture.

Out on the A94 motorway, the C-ITS Roadshow demonstrates how vehicles and infrastructure can communicate seamlessly—showcasing the future of cooperative intelligent transport systems.

Cycling and e-bike enthusiasts are also in for a treat:
The Cycling & Micromobility Course on Ludwigstraße offers a dynamic test environment with multiple urban modules.

The 4-kilometer Cycling Test Track in the English Garden invites visitors to explore the newest bikes and e-bikes in one of Munich’s most scenic green spaces.

Adding even more depth to the experience, companies like Bosch, Mahle, Snapdragon, and INYO Mobility are showcasing their latest technologies through Innovation Cases—both at the exhibition grounds and in the Open Space.
