The second day of IAA MOBILITY was dominated by keynotes from many CEOs of major OEMs. In addition, the World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC), China's major electric mobility trade show, was held outside of China for the first time. In addition, Sophia Kianni, founder of the Climate Cardinals climate protection initiative, paid a visit to the IAA MOBILITY.

Bosch CEO Stefan Hartung gave a keynote address on why sustainable mobility is about more than just developing new, innovative technologies. He said it is a basic prerequisite for ensuring that we can continue to shape our lives in the future as individually and self-determinedly as we do today. "Bosch wants to shape a new era of mobility together with its partners," CEO Hartung said during his presentation.

The evolution from hardware-centric mechatronic products to more software-driven solutions is already underway, he said. Sustainability across the entire value chain is crucial. Continental is therefore redefining the vehicle at all levels - from the road to the cloud. The company will be working with Google in the future when it comes to artificial intelligence (AI). In his keynote speech, BASF CEO Martin Brudermüller again made it clear that the transformation to sustainable mobility also requires chemistry. During his keynote, he presented a few examples of this: Mercedes-Benz AG, for example, would have decided to use mass-compatible Ultramid, a glass-fiber-reinforced polyamide, for the bow door handles of the S-Class and the EQE. 40% pyrolysis oil from used tires and 60% biomethane from agricultural waste would serve as the feedstock for the mass balance approach. This achieves a CO2 reduction of up to 40% compared to the fossil alternative and shows how chemistry drives sustainable mobility, Brudermüller said Wednesday.

Sophia Kianni spoke in her keynote about how she wants to educate about climate change
Climate change activist Sophia Kianni came to IAA MOBILITY to do just that. : She wants to educate people worldwide about climate change - especially in regions that are often particularly affected and where access to information is especially difficult. To this end, the 21-year-old founded the international youth-led nonprofit Climate Cardinals, a nonprofit climate change initiative dedicated to helping people who don't speak English gain access to climate education. In her keynote, Kianni shared why she has made climate action her life goal and how to find solution-oriented ways to stop climate change in the future.
After her keynote, Kianni went on a tour of the IAA Summit exhibition grounds, where she heard from Cargobike manufacturers about how they are advancing sustainable mobility. She also visited the Frauenhofer Institute booth. They have recently developed a solar cell foil for car hoods. It is supposed to make cars more energy efficient. At the IAA Summit, she had this innovation shown to her.

World New Energy Congress during IAA MOBILITY 2023
The World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC) was also held for this purpose. There, VDA President Hildegard Müller, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse, Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume and Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius were joined by various CEOs of Chinese automakers - from BYD, NIO, Leapmotor, SAIC Motor and Horizon Robotics. China's Vice Minister of Industry Xin Guobin also spoke at the conference in front of around 500 attendees.
The WNEVC promotes technological advancement, innovation and development of electric vehicles. It aims to strengthen global cooperation and communication in this field and to promote the development of sustainable mobility solutions. The theme of this year's conference was "Green Mobility, Win-Win Cooperation".

On a beautiful day, private visitors were once again able to participate in various mobility activities in the IAA Open Space and follow exciting discussions in the Citizens Lab. In the evening, from 20:00 - 20:45, the singer Elif gave a concert on the Königsplatz stage.
