IAA MOBILITY 2023 will be held at two locations in Munich, and its overall concept is geared toward its target groups. It is an exhibition, a pioneering mobility platform, and a forum for dialogue all at once:

  • At the IAA Summit and IAA Conference at the convention center, trade visitors and experts (B2B) from around the world will discuss innovative mobility solutions and innovations from around the globe.
  • In Open Space, the most beautiful locations in Munich’s city center will become forums for discussing mobility concepts of the future, and stages for presenting technological innovations in person (B2C).

IAA MOBILITY consists of two event areas with different time frames: The Open Space in downtown Munich will be accessible to the general public free of charge from September 5-10, 2023 (Tuesday to Sunday).

The IAA Summit (including IAA Conference) is solely geared toward trade visitors, who must pay for admission. This B2B event will take place at the Messe München on weekdays from September 5-8, 2023.

The press day at the IAA Summit on Monday, September 4, 2023 is solely accessible to accredited media representatives.

The Open Space (September 5-10, 2023) will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. On Sunday, September 10, the Open Space will only be open until 5:00 p.m. Evening events by the exhibitors themselves in the Open Space will have to be over by 10:00 p.m.

The IAA Summit (September 5-8, 2023) will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (hours of operation).

The hours for journalists at the IAA MOBILITY press day (September 4) will be from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The organizer reserves the right to change these hours as needed, including during IAA MOBILITY 2023 itself.

FAQ | IAA Open SpaceAnswers to frequently asked questions about IAA Open Space:

IAA Open Space makes it possible to experience the future of mobility in the heart of Munich. The exhibitors mainly focus on concepts and services for new and sustainable forms of mobility, and every vehicle and mobility presentation focuses on low-emission or emission-free solutions. IAA MOBILITY thus expands its visitors’ ideas of what is possible while creating a positive image of innovative future mobility. Every IAA MOBILITY event in the city center is free to visit. IAA MOBILITY is a pioneering concept that brings the mobility of tomorrow directly to where it will be experienced: the heart of the city. Exhibitors get the opportunity to meet with their customers, users, and brand ambassadors in the most well-known squares in downtown Munich. Unlike more conventional brand displays, the exhibitors will make greater use of dialogue and entertainment to draw the public in. Structures are designed with the city in mind and seek to blend in as much as possible with the urban surroundings. The mobility solutions presented will also be available to try out on site, from automobiles to e-scooters and e-bikes.

The Open Space will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on September 5-9, 2023. On Sunday, September 10, the IAA Open Space will be open until 5:00 p.m.

Set-up in the Open Space will commence on August 31, 2023, at 6:00 a.m. Set-up will be possible daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Set-up will begin earlier in certain areas. All exhibition stands in the Open Space must be completely constructed by 10:00 p.m. on September 4, 2023.

You can get to IAA MOBILITY 2023 Open Space in Munich City Center

  • by public transport via central subway (U-Bahn), suburban train (S-Bahn) and tram. From there you can reach the Open Space area within 10-20 minutes on foot.
  • by car via multiple highways connected by the A99 and the ring B2R: A8, A9, A92, A94, A96, A995 and A95.
  • From the airport by suburban rail lines S1 and S8 or Lufthansa Express Bus.
  • Parking is possible in IAA Parking areas (Messe München P9 - P12, Allianz Arena and Parkharfe Olympiapark), as well as at public park-and-ride lots (especially recommendable: P+R Messestadt Ost and P+R Heimeranplatz) and in public parking garages.
  • Local signs will guide you via “IAA Innenstadt”

Only IAA MOBILITY 2023 Summit tickets include a public transportation ticket.

Disassembly will be finished by 10:00 p.m. on September 13, 2023. Some areas will be cleared out earlier. Disassembly will be possible daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The Open Space will be accessible and free of charge for all persons in the public squares. However, this is subject to change at any time depending on the event.

Open Space exhibitors are required to make up for any emissions stemming from their presence at the event, including unavoidable emissions, by supporting climate protection projects (GoGreen). In addition to this being an obligation at the Open Space, we recommend that all Summit presenters also participate in the GoGreen initiative.

Not currently. Should this change, further information will be provided at a later time.

The comprehensive IAA MOBILITY 2023 security plan is being created in close cooperation with the security authorities of the City of Munich. External circumstances may necessitate last-minute adjustments at any time.

The event grounds will be supervised and secured outside of the event hours.

Authorities and the organizer are reasonably prepared for the expected visitor traffic. Concepts that have been proven to work in the past (such as for Oktoberfest or the “bauma” trade fair) will be utilized and adapted accordingly.

Visitor traffic at the exhibitor stands will also be coordinated, and safe crowd management will be conducted at each stand when necessary.

Yes, a sanitation plan is currently being developed.

Disposal of the waste generated during set-up/disassembly and for the entire duration of the event will be centrally coordinated, and organized by the service partners of Messe München.

Visitors to the IAA Open Space will be able to use the city’s public parking. However, we recommend arriving by public transport.

FAQ | IAA Citizens LabAnswers to frequently asked questions about IAA Citizens Lab:

The Citizens Lab is a free dialogue platform and is a part of IAA MOBILITY 2023. It consists of the Dialogue Arena (the stage in the Citizens Lab), a workshop area, exhibition areas, and common spaces.

The goal is to bring people together at Marienplatz in Munich and facilitate an open, solution-oriented dialogue on the most important issues concerning “mobility of the future”. The Citizens Lab provides a platform for the wide range of innovations, products, and discussions pertaining to the question of how climate-friendly mobility between the city and the country can be facilitated.

The Citizens Lab is not an expert event. The open-format dialogues and audience inclusion cover technological and social matters equally.

The general public speaks with representatives from business, science, policy, and civil society on the future of mobility in entertaining discussions. Every mode of transportation has an impact on climate protection and climate resilience, urban development, social integration, energy acquisition, and resource conservation. The Citizens Lab is a place where all stakeholders are invited to discuss these issues peacefully, on equal footing, and with an interest in what others have to say. All topics and questions are based solely on current scientific knowledge.

The Citizens Lab is a free service for the general public, as well as city stakeholders and anyone visiting IAA MOBILITY to actively and constructively engage in this dialogue for the future.

You can get involved in the Citizens Lab in the following ways:

  1. Involvement in the form of your own session in the Dialogue Arena
Are you passionate about a mobility- or sustainability-related topic and you want to present it on a public stage in the heart of Munich? Then send us your idea by May 15, 2023.

  2. Signing up for a workshop
The general public, and all IAA MOBILITY visitors, can take part in one of the many workshops in the Citizens Lab and work on specific topics in groups of up to 20 people. Full schedule details and registration will be posted on the IAA MOBILY website in June 2023.

  3. Visiting a session
The Citizens Lab will host many participative activities and sessions that invite you to get involved. The Citizens Lab is a place of fair and respectful discussion, and speakers on stage will always address the audience on an equal footing.

FAQ | IAA Blue LaneAnswers to frequently asked questions about IAA Blue Lane:

The Blue Lane debuted at IAA MOBILITY 2021 as a joint project with the Bayrisches Staatsministerium für Wohnen, Bau und Verkehr and Autobahn GmbH, and in close cooperation with the municipal authorities. It was the first traffic experiment in Germany to test a temporary environmental lane. It was implemented for the 7-day duration of IAA MOBILITY on a segment of the A 94 between the interchanges München – Am Moosfeld and the end of the city highway, on the subsequent short city roadway until Mittlerer Ring, and in the opposite direction as well. Scientists were monitoring the project and evaluated the results. The objective was to reduce traffic congestion by forming carpools or using public transport. Only low-emission vehicles or vehicles with at least three occupants were allowed to use this special lane.
