    AUDI Opens New Electric Vehicle Development Center in Shanghai

    Audi and SAIC have opened a new development center in Shanghai for AUDI, their joint brand in China. The AUDI Innovation & Technology Center (AITC) will focus on co-developing the next generation of the vehicle platform as well as four new models. The first vehicles based on the new architecture are scheduled to launch in 2028.

    Around 300 R&D Employees in China

    Over time, approximately 300 employees are expected to work at the new development center. A core focus will be the evolution of the Advanced Digitized Platform (ADP). The next-generation ADP 2.0 is being engineered specifically to meet the demands of the Chinese market and will serve as the technical foundation for four upcoming AUDI models.

    In addition to platform development, the AITC will focus on vehicle dynamics and handling, AI-powered smart cockpits, and advanced driver assistance systems. Through this initiative, Audi and SAIC aim to build tighter integration between both companies' R&D and innovation capabilities.

    Four New Models Built on ADP 2.0

    The Advanced Digitized Platform evolves from the electric vehicle architecture used by SAIC's premium brand, IM Motors. With the second generation, Audi and SAIC plan to create a technical foundation tailored even more closely to the Chinese market.

    Audi and SAIC Expand Development Partnership

    The new center forms part of a broader expansion of the collaboration between Audi and SAIC announced in April 2026. The goal is to shorten development cycles and drive localized technology development within China.

    Under the agreement, Audi will bring its expertise in premium vehicle manufacturing, while SAIC will contribute its capabilities in electric vehicles, digitalization, and local market product development.
