Plenitude and Pininfarina Partner to Redesign EV Charging Infrastructure
Plenitude, the e-mobility subsidiary of Italian energy giant Eni, has announced a strategic partnership with legendary design firm Pininfarina. Together, the two companies aim to develop a new architectural concept for charging hubs that prioritizes aesthetics, ergonomics, and the overall user experience. The goal is to transform charging stations from simple utility points into recognizable, functional spaces that drivers actually enjoy visiting.
In this collaboration, Plenitude will leverage its technical expertise in charging infrastructure, while Pininfarina will spearhead the design and architectural integration. The focus is on creating high-quality, welcoming environments that blend seamlessly into their surroundings—whether in a dense urban center or a regional transit hub.

A key objective of the partnership is to redefine the charging "wait time." Rather than just providing power, these hubs are being designed as multifunctional spaces. Future sites may include dedicated lounge areas and other integrated services to make the charging process more comfortable and integrated into the driver’s lifestyle.
The charging stations are intended to be "unmistakable and easily recognizable," using premium materials and intuitive layouts to improve user guidance. A first-of-its-kind pilot project is currently being developed at Pininfarina’s headquarters in Cambiano, Italy (near Turin). At this site, Plenitude On The Road will install four charging points:
Two AC chargers with up to 22 kW of power.
Two DC fast chargers with up to 50 kW of power.
While specific technical hardware for future rollouts has not yet been confirmed, Plenitude currently utilizes high-performance systems from Italian manufacturer Alpitronic for its DC charging network. Further details regarding the global rollout and full-scale power specifications for the new concept hubs have yet to be released.
