In a major strategic move for the Chinese automotive market, the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture has officially established Jetta as an independent entity. The new company, FAW-Volkswagen Jetta Automotive Technology Co. Ltd., has begun operations with a focus on developing and marketing intelligent New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) specifically for the local market. While Jetta was originally introduced as a sub-brand in China in 2019 under the FAW Group and Volkswagen partnership, this transition marks its evolution into a standalone player.

The newly formed unit is designed to operate with greater autonomy in R&D, decision-making, and product development. Volkswagen will contribute its global technological resources, while FAW Group leverages its strengths in R&D, smart manufacturing, and supply chain management. Together, they aim to create a modern, China-specific approach to vehicle development and production.

Five New Models by 2028 

The company plans to launch a total of five new models by 2028, four of which will be New Energy Vehicles (including BEVs, PHEVs, and potentially Range Extenders). FAW-Volkswagen Jetta has set an ambitious mid-term production and sales target of 400,000 to 500,000 units per year, according to the company’s official announcement.
