The original Festival of Lights© in Germany’s capital, Berlin, is one of the world’s most well-known light art shows and has been held there annually for 20 years. The Festival of Lights has since expanded to cities around the globe—and now, as part of IAA MOBILITY, Munich is becoming part of this radiant journey.
The spectacular 3D video projections are created by a professional team of graphic designers and light artists, telling visual stories in breathtaking imagery on the historic façades of downtown Munich. But no description can truly capture the experience—come see it for yourself and become part of the magic.
The Munich Festival of Lights will take place from September 9–13, 2025, each evening from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
You’ll find the light art shows at Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz, and along Ludwigstraße on the façades of the following buildings:
- New Town Hall
- Old Town Hall (Toy Museum)
- Northwest Tower of the Residenz
- Bavarian State Library
The spectacular video projections run continuously from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM and each show lasts around 10 minutes. After one show ends, you’ll have plenty of time to walk to the next location and enjoy all the installations without missing a thing.
Important note: If you notice that a location is crowded, simply wait a bit further away for the next show to begin. This way, there’s no pushing or crowding, and you’ll enjoy a better view of the projection with more space around you.
The locations where the projections can be seen are freely accessible, with no admission fee and full barrier-free access.
- The buildings featuring light art projections at Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz, and along Ludwigstraße are about 650 meters apart and easily reachable on foot.
- All locations are conveniently located near U-Bahn stations (U3/U6: Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz, Universität).
