IAA MOBILITY 2023 is hosting the Public Transport Summit
18 institutions from Bavaria are coming to IAA MOBILITY in Munich for the Public Transport Summit – Advice on how urban and rural areas can be linked together, and how public transport can be further developed for future needs
The importance of the future of public transport is not exclusive to Bavaria, which is why the Public Transport Summit at IAA MOBILITY in Munich is a crucial industry platform for examining the interplay between tourism and mobility. The Public Transport Summit – organized by Tourismus Oberbayern München (TOM) e.V. – is being held at the Messe München during IAA MOBILITY 2023.
“IAA MOBILITY is the world’s foremost mobility platform, and we’re especially excited to be able to hold the Public Transport Summit at this year’s IAA MOBILITY,” says Oswald Pehel, CEO of Tourismus Oberbayern München (TOM) e.V. and initiator of the Public Transport Summit. “Every visitor to the Summit will have the opportunity to learn all about each aspect of climate-friendly mobility. With regard to tourism in particular, it’s important that well connected, intermodular mobility concepts be available. This will allow us to react sustainably in the medium term as well as maintain and develop our appealing living and leisure spaces for visitors and locals.”
18 institutions have already signed up for the Public Transport Summit, including the Bayerisches Wirtschaftsministerium, the Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV), the Hochschule München, Deutsche Bahn (DB), Bayerische Oberlandbahn, BEG, Oberbayernbus, the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG), Bayerische Seenschifffahrt, ADAC, and other tourism associations.
Public transport will strengthen the future of mobility in tourism
Representatives will learn about the future of tourism mobility in Upper Bavaria, which is planned to be reinforced and interconnected in all regions by means of public transport. About one year after the nationwide Nine-Euro Ticket and five months after the introduction of the Deutschlandticket, interest groups want to discuss future opportunities, achievable goals, and visions. Good connections between urban and rural areas are not only important for tourism, but also for developing public transport as a whole in a manner that considers the needs of the future.
As of May 2023, passengers have been able to use public transport all throughout Germany for a monthly fee of 49 euros. Experiences with the use of the ticket by tourists will be discussed and evaluated at the Public Transport Summit. The Summit will also address strategies and solutions for the last mile, because there is often still no solution for the route between the stop to the hotel or tram stop.
“We’re happy that the Public Transport Summit is taking IAA MOBILITY as an opportunity to hold this major event and will thus increase in importance as a place of trailblazing discussions,” says Christine von Breitenbuch (Messe München) and Jan Heckmann (VDA), both of whom are project directors at IAA MOBILITY 2023. The Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA) and Messe München are two of the cooperation partners organizing IAA MOBILITY in Munich.
Both the IAA Summit and IAA Conference will be held at the convention centre in Munich-Riem from September 5 to 8, 2023, and are geared toward trade visitors. The B2B event will impart the expertise of around 500 experts – including through groundbreaking keynotes – in six halls and on three stages. The IAA Summit is the most important international B2B platform for mobility, trade experts, industry representatives, and journalists, and has established itself as the leading platform for mobility.
This year’s IAA MOBILITY will physically and thematically separate the two target groups: trade visitors (B2B) and the general public (B2C). The mobility of tomorrow will come to downtown Munich for the IAA Open Space, with the general public (B2C) receiving free admission.
