Kia will unveil a diverse lineup of new EVs at IAA MOBILITY 2025 in Munich. At the Kia booth on Ludwigstrasse in the IAA Open Space, visitors will see the German premieres of the EV4 compact car and the Concept EV2 city car. Kia will also present the EV5 SUV, expected to launch in Germany in early 2026, and the new PV5 platform vehicle, marking Kia’s entry into the light commercial vehicle segment.

Test drives will be available for the EV3, the refreshed EV6, and the EV9. The EV3 was recently named "World Car of the Year 2025" and won the 2024 "Golden Steering Wheel" for best car under €40,000. The EV9 has earned several accolades, including "World Car of the Year 2024," "World Electric Vehicle 2024," and the 2023 Golden Steering Wheel for best family car. The updated EV6 was the first Korean brand vehicle to be named Europe’s Car of the Year in 2022.

Visitors can register for test drives onsite. Additionally, Kia’s test drives will be available for early booking via the official IAA MOBILITY App (now available in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store) starting in August 2025.

Chinese automaker BYD has unveiled the Dolphin Surf in Berlin — a compact EV tailored to the European market. Built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 and using in-house Blade Battery technology, the Dolphin Surf will come in three versions: with a 30 kWh battery with a 65 kW motor and 220 km range, with a 43.2 kWh battery with a 65 kW motor and up to 322 km range and with a 43.2 kWh battery with a 115 kW motor and 310 km range

The larger battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in about 22 minutes.

Volkswagen is planning to bring its legendary GTI branding into the EV era. VW brand chief Thomas Schäfer told AutoExpress, “By the end of the decade, we’ll launch an electric Golf — it’ll be a real monster of a car.” This electric Golf is part of a broader strategy to develop multiple electric GTI models, starting with the ID.2 GTI. The ID.2 GTI will be the first all-electric GTI and is based on the ID.2all — a Polo-sized EV expected to launch in 2026.

According to a new report from the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), Europe now has over one million publicly accessible EV charging points. Germany alone accounts for 166,867 of those — 128,198 AC chargers and 38,669 DC fast chargers. In Q1 2025, Germany saw a 17% increase in public chargers year-over-year.

The ICCT’s quarterly market tracker analyzes how well public charging infrastructure keeps up with EV adoption. As of Q1 2025, Europe had an average of 7.2 public 22 kW-equivalent charging points per 1,000 cars and vans on the road.

Toyota has unveiled the sixth-generation RAV4, which will be available in Europe exclusively as a full hybrid or plug-in hybrid starting in 2026. The plug-in version will feature a 23 kWh battery, enabling up to 100 km of electric-only range. It will support DC fast charging at up to 50 kW, allowing a 10–80% charge in around 30 minutes. The system output reaches up to 304 hp, with a 0–100 km/h time of 5.8 seconds. For the first time, a front-wheel drive variant will be available, offering 268 hp.

Nissan is bringing back the Micra as a fully electric model by the end of 2025 in Europe. Built on the AmpR Small platform shared by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, the new Micra shares much of its tech with the upcoming Renault 5. Two battery options will be available: with 40 kWh with 90 kW (122 hp) and up to 310 km range and with 52 kWh with 110 kW (150 hp) and up to 408 km range

Both versions will support DC fast charging (80–100 kW), allowing a 15–80% charge in roughly 30 minutes.

(c) Enyring

Yamaha subsidiary Enyring is rolling out an innovative battery swap system for e-bikes in Europe. Starting in Q4 2025, users in Berlin and Amsterdam will be able to swap empty batteries for full ones in under 20 seconds. Around 40 stations are planned for Berlin and 20 for Amsterdam, each placed within a two-kilometer radius in the city center.

Enyring offers four e-bike models powered by a standardized 480 Wh battery. The subscription model eliminates upfront battery costs and includes ongoing maintenance and monitoring. Decommissioned batteries will be recycled or repurposed for second-life use.

(c) Envgo

Canadian startup Envgo has introduced the NV1, an electric hydrofoil boat with a range of up to 120 kilometers and a top speed of 80 km/h. Featuring an 8.3-meter carbon fiber hull, the NV1 can carry up to six passengers and uses hydrofoil technology to reduce drag and increase efficiency.

It’s powered by two electric motors delivering a peak output of 245 kW (330 hp) and a continuous output of 125 kW (170 hp). The 80 kWh battery supports DC fast charging.

ARI Motors has added the ARI Poly to its portfolio — a compact electric city car designed for urban driving. It’s powered by a 30 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor (optional 50 kW) and features front-wheel drive. The standard 17.3 kWh LFP battery offers up to 201 km of range, while optional packs (31.9 kWh and 37.9 kWh) deliver 333 km and 410 km respectively.

The ARI Poly was developed in partnership with Wuling Motors and General Motors in China and is being adapted by ARI Motors for the European market.

(c) Volonaut Airbike

Polish startup Volonaut has introduced the Airbike, a futuristic jet-powered personal flying vehicle reminiscent of Star Wars speeder bikes. Designed for one rider, the Airbike features a jet propulsion system with no visible rotors, allowing for a compact form factor. The carbon frame is enhanced with 3D-printed components to keep weight to a minimum.

Controlled by an onboard flight computer, the Airbike is intended as a personal mobility device — not an urban air taxi — symbolizing freedom and independence, according to inventor Tomasz Patan.

(c) Archer Aviation

Archer Aviation has been named the official air taxi provider for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The company plans to deploy its Midnight eVTOL aircraft, which can carry up to four passengers and take off and land vertically.

Archer plans to build a network of “vertiports” at key locations including SoFi Stadium, the LA Memorial Coliseum, LAX Airport, Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Orange County. Flights are expected to last between 10 and 20 minutes and will be priced similarly to an Uber Lux ride.
