MOIA is a Technology Company within the Volkswagen Group focused on autonomous mobility. As a Tech Provider, MOIA develops a turnkey solution that enables cities and public transport operators to run their own autonomous services. MOIA’s turnkey solution includes the autonomous vehicle, a software ecosystem for fleet management and passenger services, as well as services for integrating autonomous services into existing mobility systems. With this comprehensive approach, MOIA lays the foundation for an efficient, flexible, and safe mobility of the future.
1. Why is IAA MOBILITY a relevant forum for you to discuss the development of urban mobility?
IAA MOBILITY is an important forum for us because it opens the perspective beyond the traditional private car. For MOIA, this is crucial. As a Tech Provider, we develop an integrated end-to-end solution for autonomous mobility that complements other modes of transport, such as public transport. Autonomous fleets can be deployed where buses and trains reach economic or personnel limits, helping to relieve urban traffic and improve connectivity in suburban and rural areas. IAA MOBILITY brings together exactly the partners we want to work with to turn these solutions into reality: cities, transport operators, policymakers, and industry.
2. What does a future-ready interaction between public transport and other forms of mobility look like to you?
We are convinced that the future will be shaped by a highly connected mobility system in which many different modes of transport complement each other. Autonomous mobility is a central part of this future mix and will play a major role in ensuring efficient and safe mobility. Autonomous services can, for example, be used as ridepooling offerings to close gaps in public transport and address the challenges of driver shortages. With our turnkey solution – consisting of the autonomous vehicle, software for fleet and passenger management, as well as services for embedding into existing mobility systems – we enable cities, operators, and mobility providers to quickly and safely integrate such services into their networks. For us, future-ready mobility is efficient, safe, and centered on people and their needs.
3. How important is the IAA MOBILITY as a platform to drive forward innovative ideas and collaborations?
The major challenges of the mobility transition can only be solved together. MOIA sees itself as a Tech Provider, giving cities, operators, and mobility companies the technology they need to bring autonomous mobility into everyday life. IAA MOBILITY allows us to showcase these innovations and engage with international partners from industry, the mobility sector, and politics.
4. What projects will you showcase at IAA MOBILITY?
We will present our complete solution for autonomous mobility. At the center is the ID. Buzz AD, Volkswagen’s first autonomous series-ready vehicle, developed specifically for use in the on-demand and shared mobility sector. But the real key is the overall system: with our MOIA turnkey solution, we offer both public and private operators everything from a single source – vehicle, software, and services – market-ready, safe, and scalable. In doing so, we not only address challenges such as driver shortages or insufficient transport coverage in rural areas but also enable people to experience a new type of mobility that is flexible, comfortable, and affordable.
5. Which audiences do you particularly want to reach with your presence at IAA MOBILITY?
At IAA MOBILITY, we are targeting an international audience. It is important for us to invite media, political decision-makers, and industry representatives to autonomous test rides and show them firsthand how advanced our technology already is. At the same time, we actively seek dialogue with operators and mobility providers to jointly shape the next steps for the deployment of autonomous mobility. For us, IAA MOBILITY is therefore a platform that combines visibility, dialogue, and cooperation.
6. What message would you like to share with visitors at IAA MOBILITY about the future of mobility?
Autonomous mobility is not just a promise for the future. With MOIA, it can already be experienced on the streets today. It has the potential to make traffic more efficient and safer while also improving accessibility. At MOIA, we see ourselves as a technology partner that empowers cities, operators, and mobility providers to take this step, so that mobility becomes more comfortable and accessible for everyone.
