The Mobility Data Space (MDS) is a data marketplace where equal partners from the mobility sector can exchange data. The data provider remains the owner of the data at all times and can autonomously decide whether and with which member to enter into data exchange. The goal is to create a cross-company data economy in order to realize and further develop innovative, environmentally and user-friendly mobility concepts. In doing so, the MDS brings together companies, organizations and institutions: those that want to monetize their data treasures and those that need data for innovative mobility solutions, but in many cases also to create a win-win situation for mutual benefit through a targeted exchange. For this purpose, the MDS creates the framework for a trusting cooperation.
1. What key trends do you see currently shaping the development of your field?
Three trends are currently shaping the world of mobility data: 1. Data sovereignty is becoming a strategic success factor. Companies need trustworthy data spaces such as the Mobility Data Space in order to share data securely and autonomously. 2. Networked thinking: mobility is becoming increasingly interlinked with energy, logistics and smart cities. Cross-sector data exchange is becoming a must. 3. Autonomous driving is coming - and with it the need for high-quality, shared data. Data spaces form the basis for this.
2. How important is the IAA MOBILITY as a platform to drive forward innovative ideas and collaborations?
The IAA MOBILITY is a key platform for us. It brings together the relevant players along the entire mobility value chain - OEMs, suppliers, tech companies, start-ups and politicians. For the Mobility Data Space in particular, as an enabler for digital mobility projects, the IAA offers the ideal stage for building new partnerships, showcasing use cases and making the benefits of data-driven mobility tangible.
3. What practical applications and collaborations do you expect to be highlighted at the IAA MOBILITY?
We expect to see more applications relating to connected vehicles, autonomous driving and holistic mobility solutions. The focus is also shifting to Use Cases in which companies share their data in order to jointly create added value - for example in the areas of fleet management, charging infrastructure or urban mobility planning.
4. What projects will you like to showcase at the IAA MOBILITY?
We will show specific Use Cases from the Mobility Data Space in which data from various partners - such as OEMs, cities and service providers - is shared and used via our platform. We will also be presenting new partners who are expanding our ecosystem.
5. How can the IAA MOBILITY help make sustainable technologies and approaches accessible to a wider audience?
By making technologies tangible and putting people at the center. Sustainability is not only reflected in the product, but also in the system behind it - and data is a key element in efficiently designing sustainable mobility solutions. The IAA MOBILITY can act as a mediator between the tech world and society and make complex data innovations tangible.
6. In what ways do you work with OEMs to accelerate the implementation of innovations in vehicles?
Several car manufacturers are involved in the Mobility Data Space as shareholders and others have signed a member agreement. We see ourselves as an enabler for data-driven mobility innovations. We work closely with OEMs to break down data silos and develop new data-based services together with other players such as transport companies and cities. Our focus is on secure, standardised data spaces that help OEMs to apply their innovative strength quickly and at scale.
