Interview
with Katrin BacicCEO at UNIO Enterprise

1. What key trends do you see currently shaping the development of your field?

Connectivity is becoming the new horsepower. The mobility sector is shifting from “network optional” to “network critical,” driven by autonomous functions, real-time control, and data-driven services. The big trend is hybrid connectivity, blending terrestrial 5G with space-based networks, powered by AI, to deliver coverage that’s truly everywhere. Vehicles are no longer just moving machines, they’re connected platforms.

2. How important is the IAA MOBILITY as a platform to drive forward innovative ideas and collaborations?

For startups like UNIO, it’s a rare moment to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with OEMs, Tier 1s, and other innovators, starting the partnerships that turn ambitious ideas into industry-shaping realities. We attended first time with a small booth and three employees in 2023 and are now back in double the size.

3. What practical applications and collaborations do you expect to be highlighted at the IAA MOBILITY?

We expect to see real-world use cases that prove the shift from concept to commercial reality: teleoperated vehicles in rural zones, logistics fleets optimised with live data, and vehicles operating autonomously thanks to uninterrupted connectivity.

4. What projects will you like to showcase at the IAA MOBILITY?

We’ll showcase UNIO Move, our hybrid 5G+satellite connectivity platform, already powering AVL’s autonomous e-tractor and in trials with major OEMs. It’s not just a prototype, it’s running today, proving that seamless connectivity is ready for next-gen mobility.

5. How can the IAA MOBILITY help make sustainable technologies and approaches accessible to a wider audience?

By making innovation tangible. When visitors can see, touch, and even ride in solutions that cut emissions, increase efficiency, and reduce waste, sustainability stops being a buzzword and becomes an expectation. IAA’s global stage gives sustainable tech the visibility and credibility it needs to scale.

6. In what ways do you work with OEMs to accelerate the implementation of innovations in vehicles?

We integrate early, test fast, and iterate alongside our OEM partners. UNIO Move is designed to complement, not replace, their existing systems, so we can plug in without overhauls. That means faster pilots, smoother scaling, and innovation that reaches the road (or the field) sooner.
