Toyota Motor Corporation has debuted a battery-electric version of its popular Highlander SUV in Ojai, California, specifically for the North American market. This three-row BEV is slated for a late 2026 launch in North America, serving as a cornerstone of Toyota’s "Beyond Zero" electric vehicle portfolio and its multi-pathway approach to achieving carbon neutrality.

The new Highlander BEV will be Toyota’s fourth all-electric model to hit the production line in North America—joining the bZ4X, the C-HR, and the bZ Woodland—and is designed for families and drivers seeking a spacious, versatile SUV. Toyota highlighted the Highlander’s significance to the brand, noting that more than 3.6 million units have been sold in the U.S. throughout the model's history.

On the technical side, the BEV will offer two battery options: a 76.96 kWh version for urban driving and a 95.82 kWh long-range variant. Available in both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, Toyota is targeting an estimated electric range of up to 320 miles for the AWD setup. Additionally, the Highlander BEV will feature battery pre-conditioning to optimize DC fast-charging performance, particularly in cold weather.
